Payment with 5G+: An effective solution for successful surchases at the Granville Carnival
In February 2026, Orange 5G Lab participated in a 5G+ experiment organized by W-HA and the Granville Carnival to showcase the uses of 5G+ in a lively and demanding event context.
With over 150,000 visitors, ten times the population of Granville, the mobile network quickly becomes saturated, sometimes preventing transactions on merchants’ POS terminals during the event.
The goal: enable carnival-goers to make mobile purchases even when the mobile network is congested.
W-Ha, a subsidiary of Orange specializing in payment ecosystems, deployed during the Carnaval de Granville its Tap to Pay Contodeo payment solution in mobile mode, connected to an Orange’s Fly Box 5G+ provided by Orange 5G Lab.
This experiment, conducted amidst the lively atmosphere of the carnival, enabled a smartphone to be transformed into a secure and priority payment terminal, thanks to a dedicated bandwidth provided by 5G+.
As a result, this setup facilitated faster and smoother transactions during the popular Bal à Maman event.
How the solution works
- Tap to Pay Contodeo transforms a smartphone into a secure payment terminal, accepting contactless card payments, digital wallets, and other electronic payment methods.
- 5G+ technology enables the creation of a prioritized bandwidth through the advanced feature of Network Slicing.
- The Orange’s Fly Box 5G équipped with a 5G+ SIM card provides the connected payment terminal via Wi-Fi with prioritized connectivity and very low latency, essential for ensuring smooth and secure transactions in mobile and high-traffic environments.
- The solution requires no additional hardware, making it easy to use and highly mobile for professionals.
Results and Challenges
- Security and Compliance: W-Ha’s Tap to Pay Contodeo solution complies with all regulatory standards for payment security, without storing any sensitive information on the smartphone.
- Flexibility and Mobility: Merchants and organizers can process payments at any time, without bulky equipment, in an environment where speed and smoothness are essential.
- Performance: 5G+ connectivity ensures instant data transmission, even in high-traffic environments, providing a smooth and secure customer experience without interruptions.

This project concretely illustrates how 5G+ can revolutionize professional practices—preventing payment failures and safeguarding revenue in this case—by providing ultra-fast, reliable, and secure connectivity, even in crowded and mobile environments.
The Tap to Pay Contodeo solution combined with 5G+ thus enables professionals to stay mobile while ensuring a smooth and secure customer experience.
Orange, through this partnership between the Granville Carnival, W-HA, and Orange 5G Lab, demonstrates its commitment to promoting innovative solutions tailored to business challenges, to accelerate their digital transformation through 5G+.
A new step towards a future where tomorrow’s connectivity enhances mobility, security, and simplicity of payments, everywhere and at any time.
